Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Northampton

Job Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7am – 5pm

Houghton Hams is a well-established, family-run, food production business which started in 1989, based in Moulton Park. Since the year 2000, Houghton Hams has rapidly grown and expanded. With customers and clients ranging from high end retailers to individual customers and food establishments, Houghton Hams went from having one building to now having four. We supply to our customers nationally on a next day service. Products include, but not limited to, bacon, gammon joints and hams.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving our production equipment and facilities, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

-Perform reactive electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery, equipment, and systems.

-Fault find, diagnose, and resolve electrical faults to minimize downtime.

-Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, reports, and inspections.

-Develop and implement a preventative maintenance schedule.

-Provide support to other Maintenance Engineers.

-Contact and coordinate with contractors.

-Fit new parts and ensure proper installation.

-Deal with emergencies and unplanned problems and repairs.

-Conduct annual services and equipment inspections.

-Maintain and service equipment.

-Perform other related duties and activities as required.

-Manage stocks of supplies and equipment.

-Supervise contractors when necessary.

-Ensure compliance with hygiene and housekeeping standards, including Personnel Hygiene HACCP - CCP / LCP.

Essential Experience/Skills/Qualifications:

-Proven experience working as an Electrical Maintenance Engineer.

-Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds).

-Experience working on manufacturing machinery.

-Ability to work in a cold environment with full PPE.

Strong understanding of food processing machinery and maintenance practices, including:

-Multi Vac

-Slicing machines (hand slicers, VSI slicers, Weber)

-Multi Vac scanner

-Compressors

-Cookers/boilers

-Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.

-High attention to detail to ensure equipment operates safely and effectively.

-Good communication skills to collaborate with production teams and external contractors.
