Job summary

Bridgnorth Aluminium is offering a 1st year Full Time Placement in electrical maintenance at their site in Shrewsbury College. The role includes hands-on maintenance, fault diagnosis under supervision, and learning to test, inspect and commission electrical systems.

Placements are onsite, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with one day per week college placement. Ideal candidates have GCSEs in Maths, English, and IT, and a strong interest in electrical engineering and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical machinery and plant equipment.
  • Learn to diagnose and resolve electrical faults under supervision.
  • Support testing, inspection, and commissioning of electrical systems and controls.
  • Assist with maintaining motors, control panels, sensors, wiring systems, lighting, and power distribution equipment.
  • Use electrical testing equipment and tools safely and correctly.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Help identify faulty components and replace parts as required.
  • Ensure machinery and electrical systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and documentation.
  • Follow electrical safety procedures and company health & safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical standards and regulations.
  • Support breakdown response activities and assist with emergency repairs.

Job description

  • Ensure machinery and electrical systems operate efficiently and safely.

  • Follow electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, and company health & safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical standards and regulations.
  • Support breakdown response activities and assist with emergency repairs when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and production teams to minimise downtime.
  • Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
  • Participate in apprenticeship training programmes and complete required coursework.
  • Develop knowledge of PLC systems, control circuits, automation, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Assist with continuous improvement projects to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Receives instructions from their Mentor to direct them in the completion of tasks in a timely and Safe manner.
  • To become proficient in planned maintenance tasks, fault finding, and electrical breakdown repair.
  • Understand and demonstrate hands on and analytical skills to assists the business in the electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Carry out such tasks as Installations, design and manufacturing of control panels, fault finding and planned maintenance.
  • To assist with repairs, planned maintenance and project work.
  • Work with supervision on allotted tasks within nationally recognised regulations and company procedures, eg.I.E.E. Regulations.
  • Keep areas of work in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Ensure safe working practices are understood and adhered to.
  • To ensure that logs are kept of planned maintenance activities, and that job cards are completed as appropriate, and the CMMS system is kept up to date with the planned maintenance tasks., Assist in the Collection of engineering data related to Maintenance Duties and Responsibilities
  • Use of the CMMS system to pan the maintenance activities and produce accurately generated work records
  • Completion of Apprentice Logbook in association with the NVQ3
  • Adhere to all applicable HSE regulations, BAL safety policies and procedure
  • GCSE Grades at C or above for Mathematics, English and Information Technology
    Strong interest in electrical engineering and maintenance
  • Good problem-solving and fault-finding abilities
  • Basic understanding of electrical principles and safety practices.
  • Ability to work carefully and accurately with electrical equipment
