Electrical Engineering Manager
ITS (Construction South) is recruiting an Electrical Engineering Manager on behalf of a leading construction and engineering client.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineering professional to take a senior technical leadership role within a business delivering complex projects across demanding sectors, including data centres, defence, energy and critical infrastructure.
Our client provides integrated construction, engineering, refurbishment and project delivery services, supporting projects from early design and pre-construction through to completion and client handover. With a strong focus on quality, safety, technical expertise and long-term client relationships, the business is looking for an individual who can strengthen its electrical engineering capability and drive consistently high standards across its projects.
We are looking for someone who combines first‑class technical knowledge with the confidence to challenge, influence and lead. This is not simply a project‑based engineering position; it is an opportunity to shape electrical engineering standards, oversee technical assurance and make a meaningful contribution to the safe and successful delivery of projects across the business.
The Opportunity
As Electrical Engineering Manager, you will take a leading role in electrical engineering governance, technical assurance and compliance across multiple projects.
Working closely with senior management, technical specialists, HSEQ, operations and project delivery teams, you will ensure electrical systems are designed, installed, inspected, tested, commissioned and energised safely and in accordance with the required technical, regulatory and quality standards.
You will provide expert advice, establish consistent engineering procedures and ensure that electrical risks are identified and managed effectively. You will also have the authority to challenge non‑compliant proposals, require corrective action and intervene where safety or technical standards are not being met.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at senior level, influencing stakeholders and supporting project teams in complex construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
Electricty Engineering Leadership
- Provide senior technical leadership and direction for electrical engineering across the business.
- Develop, implement and maintain electrical engineering standards, governance arrangements and safe systems of work.
- Advise senior management, project teams, clients and stakeholders on electrical engineering matters.
- Establish clear competency, authorisation, supervision and appointment requirements for electrical personnel.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, technical standards and industry best practice.
- Challenge unsafe practices and intervene where electrical safety, quality or compliance cannot be demonstrated.
Technical Assurance and Project Support
- Establish appropriate electrical design review and technical assurance processes.
- Review complex electrical designs, specifications and proposed engineering solutions.
- Provide technical input throughout pre‑construction, procurement and project delivery.
- Identify and manage significant electrical risks, design departures and technical non‑conformances.
- Promote consistent engineering standards and effective technical solutions across projects.
- Oversee electrical interfaces with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and other specialist organisations.
Quality, Testing and Commissioning
- Set requirements for electrical quality assurance, inspection, testing and commissioning.
- Undertake or coordinate technical audits across projects, contractors and the supply chain.
- Provide oversight of testing, commissioning and energisation activities.
- Investigate significant electrical defects, failures and non‑conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective action is completed.
- Lead or support investigations into significant electrical incidents and share lessons learned.
- Report key electrical risks, compliance issues and outstanding actions to senior management.
Team Development and Continuous Improvement
- Support the recruitment, assessment and development of electrical engineering personnel.
- Define and promote appropriate competency standards across internal teams and external contractors.
- Mentor engineering and project delivery teams, improving technical capability and consistency.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the business.
- Represent the organisation in technical discussions with clients, consultants and external bodies.
- Contribute to business planning and the development of future electrical engineering capability.
Technical Authority
The role carries responsibility for ensuring that electrical engineering standards are maintained. This includes the authority to:
- Challenge electrical designs, technical submissions and working practices.
- Request additional testing, evidence or independent verification where necessary.
- Reject proposals or installations that do not meet the required technical or compliance standards.
- Introduce technical hold points where further assurance is required.
- Require corrective action before testing, commissioning or energisation proceeds.
- Pause or stop electrical activities where safety, quality or compliance cannot be adequately demonstrated.
- Escalate significant unresolved technical risks to the appropriate director.
Project teams will retain accountability for the safe and successful delivery of their projects, with the Electrical Engineering Manager providing the wider governance, technical assurance and oversight required.
