Walker & Sloan, a leading specialist contractor, is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager to establish and uphold engineering standards across the organisation. You will lead design reviews, enforce electrical safety and regulatory compliance, mentor technical teams and advise senior management on mission‑critical data centre, defence and energy projects.
This senior role offers genuine authority, autonomy and the opportunity to shape engineering strategy and major electrical infrastructure
Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding specialist construction and engineering contractor to recruit an exceptional Electrical Engineering Manager to take a leading role within their growing technical and engineering function.
Our client has established an enviable reputation for delivering some of the UK’s most technically complex construction projects across the Data Centre, Defence and Energy sectors.
With over 40 years of specialist expertise, an impressive portfolio of high-profile developments and ambitious plans for continued growth, the business is looking to appoint a senior electrical engineering professional capable of providing technical leadership, governance and assurance across its entire project portfolio.
This is not a conventional project-based electrical management position.
This is an opportunity to become a leading technical authority within the business, influencing engineering standards, electrical safety, technical strategy and the successful delivery of major mission-critical infrastructure.
As Electrical Engineering Manager, you’ll take responsibility for establishing, maintaining and continuously improving electrical engineering standards across the organisation.
Working closely with senior leadership, Technical Directors, Project Directors, HSEQ professionals and operational teams, you’ll provide expert guidance across all aspects of electrical design, installation, testing, commissioning and energisation.
You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring that complex HV and LV electrical systems are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest technical standards.
Your influence will extend across multiple projects, supporting technical decision-making, challenging engineering solutions, managing electrical risk and ensuring consistency throughout the business.
You’ll also have significant involvement in developing electrical engineering capability, mentoring technical teams and supporting the recruitment and development of future engineering talent.
This is a senior appointment offering genuine authority, autonomy and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on a highly respected specialist contractor.
You’ll provide strategic and operational leadership across the company’s electrical engineering activities, ensuring that technical standards, governance arrangements and safe systems of work are consistently implemented.
A key part of your role will involve reviewing complex electrical designs, assessing technical risks and providing engineering assurance across major projects, particularly those involving critical power infrastructure, HV/LV distribution and technically demanding electrical installations.
You’ll work closely with project delivery teams to establish robust inspection, testing and commissioning procedures, while providing senior technical oversight of energisation activities and significant electrical interfaces.
Importantly, you’ll have the authority to challenge designs, reject non-compliant installations and intervene where electrical safety or technical standards are not being achieved.
Beyond technical assurance, you’ll help shape the company’s wider engineering strategy, ensuring the business continues to develop the systems, people and expertise required to deliver increasingly complex projects.
You’ll be an established senior electrical engineering professional with significant experience delivering and overseeing complex electrical systems within technically demanding environments.
Ideally, you’ll currently be operating as an Electrical Engineering Manager, Head of Electrical Engineering, Principal Electrical Engineer, Electrical Technical Director or Senior Electrical Engineering Lead.
You’ll bring exceptional technical knowledge, strong leadership credentials and the confidence to influence engineering decisions at the highest level.
We’re particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate:
Extensive experience across HV and LV electrical infrastructure, including design, installation, testing, commissioning and energisation
A strong background within data centres, defence, energy, critical infrastructure or similarly complex environments
Experience providing senior technical leadership and engineering assurance across major construction projects
Excellent knowledge of electrical safety, regulatory compliance and industry standards
Experience developing engineering procedures, technical governance and quality assurance frameworks
Strong understanding of critical power systems, electrical distribution and complex engineering interfaces
The ability to lead, mentor and influence engineering teams and specialist contractors
Excellent communication skills and the credibility to advise senior management, clients and external stakeholders
You’ll ideally hold a degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, together with Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable equivalent senior professional competence.
Professional membership of the IET or a comparable institution, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and appropriate HV electrical safety qualifications will also be important.
Above all, you’ll be a technically outstanding individual who combines engineering expertise with sound judgement, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to electrical safety and excellence.
