Job summary

OnTarget Communications is seeking a Mid Level Electrical Support & Test Engineer to work hands-on with advanced electrical control systems for heavy machinery. You will test, fault-find, commission on-site, and support customers across diverse industrial environments.

Based in Toomebridge, Northern Ireland, you will travel to customer sites and work with workshop teams to validate performance, develop documentation, and drive improvements.

Qualifications

• HND, Foundation Degree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Experience with industrial machinery, mobile equipment, or machine control systems.
• Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience commissioning, testing, or supporting machinery in the field.
• Good understanding of electrical control panels and machine operation.
• Ability to work independently on customer sites when required.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• PLC-based control systems or embedded electronics.
• Hydraulics and pneumatic systems.
• CANbus and industrial communication protocols.
• Three-phase electrical systems.
• Machinery safety standards and risk assessments.
• Experience within manufacturing, heavy equipment, off-highway vehicles, or industrial machinery sectors.

Responsibilities

• Test and validate electrical control systems both in the workshop and on-site.
• Commission machinery and provide customer support during installation and operation.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, control system, and machine performance issues.
• Support customers with technical troubleshooting and fault-finding.
• Provide feedback to engineering and design teams to drive continuous improvement.
• Create test equipment, simulators, and support tools where required.
• Assist with the development of technical documentation, manuals, and user guides.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.
