Job summary

AECOM in the UK and Ireland is seeking an ambitious Electrical Design Engineer to join the HV Substation Design team. You will contribute to primary plant layouts, equipment specifications, and HV design input across major projects.

This role offers hybrid working, mentorship from experienced engineers, and exposure to renewables and data centre scale infrastructure. A degree in electrical engineering and strong English skills are essential. Driving license may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Some experience of working on HV projects.
• Some experience working as a designer or as a project engineer.
• Some experience developing specifications for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.
• Fluency in English.
• Some exposure to technical report writing.
• Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle as site visits may be required.
• Ideally have Chartered accreditation or working toward status.
• Ideally have consultancy experience.
• Ideally have experience in reviewing detailed designs & witnessing construction site activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with producing primary plant layouts for HV substations.
• Support with the production of equipment specifications for HV Plant and associated equipment.
• Providing engineering design input to major infrastructure projects.
• Support projects in the capacity of an Owners’ Engineer role. Working on HV substation/Cable and OHL projects.
• Provide HV design input to renewable energy projects e.g., Battery storage, Solar, Hydro and Wind generation.
