Job summary

Shirley Parsons is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer on a contract basis in North London for high-profile data centre and building services projects.

You will lead electrical design development, coordinate with design teams and contractors, perform calculations, prepare drawings and tender specs, and mentor junior engineers to ensure quality and deadlines. The role is outside IR35 and office-based, demanding a proactive approach and solid knowledge of British Standards.

Location: North London (Office-Based)
Contract Length: Minimum 6 Months

A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join its expanding design team. This contract role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile data centre and building services projects, contributing to detailed design development and service coordination.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct site surveys, testing, and reporting on existing installations
• Attend technical meetings with design teams and contractors
• Perform electrical calculations using Amtech, ProDesign, or similar software
• Prepare technical drawings and tender specifications
• Mentor and oversee junior engineers and trainees

Skills & Experience

• Proficient in electrical design and specification across various building types
• Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Familiarity with British Standards and building regulations
• Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
• High attention to detail and quality output

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Environmental Engineering
