Job summary

National Gas Transmission PLC in the UK is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to support asset management across operational technology and cybersecurity. You will work from our Ebbw Vale facility, providing technical leadership, testing, and assurance to ensure safe integration of new technology into the gas network.

The role requires EL96 LV4 Authorised Person status, strong knowledge of electrical safety, and collaboration with cyber specialists and project teams.

Qualifications

About the role:

Working in our modern engineering research facility in Ebbw Vale, this electrical engineering asset management role gives you the opportunity to security test the National Gas operational assets and technology and upcoming innovations – in a safe offline environment; working closely with other engineers and cyber specialists.

You will provide technical electrical engineering expertise and capability across operational technology (OT), cyber security and engineering assurance; supporting innovation projects and testing activity, helping to ensure that outputs can be safely transitioned into operational use.

Key accountabilities:

• Engineering subject matter expert for electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) and cybersecurity assets.
• Lead the safe operation and expansion of CORE capability, ensuring engineering, operational technology and cyber assurance activities are delivered in line with National Gas standards, policies and procedures.
• Act as a competent engineering authority, acting under SCO/91 and EL/96 LV4 responsibilities as appropriate to the role and authorised competence level.
• Manage technical engineering design reviews across all workstreams and multifunctional teams, including reviewing for approval Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) design documentation, cybersecurity CFAT testing, and leading test assurance activities.
• Maintain comprehensive technical and assurance documentation to evidence compliance with relevant governance, safety and regulatory requirements, including the NIS Regulations, Price Control Deliverables and CAF-related assurance expectations.
• Responsible for the maintenance, fault investigation, remediation and vulnerability management of operational assets, ensuring issues are identified, assessed and resolved in line with National Gas standards, safety requirements and cyber assurance expectations.
• Mentor CORE technicians and provide technical guidance to build engineering capability, support knowledge transfer and maintain alignment with National Gas procedures, safety requirements and competency expectations.
• Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, delivery units, project teams and technical specialists, using sound judgement to resolve queries, elevate risks where required and support timely corrective action.

About you:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering subject or equivalent experience in electrical, C/I discipline.
• Sustained experience in working under EL96 LV4 Authorised Person status and associated electrical engineering competence to provide electrical safety leadership, manage LV isolations, and ensure compliance with National Gas Electrical Safety Rules.
• Sustained Experience operating under Safe Control of Operations requirements, including SCO/91 and EL/96, with appropriate authorisation to act as Authorising Engineer, Job Owner and/or Site Controller in line with business requirements.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, engineering standards, safety procedures and operational governance requirements.
• Detailed technical understanding of operational assets, associated plant and Control & Instrumentation equipment, including safe isolation, decommissioning and recommissioning.
• Experience working in operational technology environments, including instrumentation, control systems, engineering interfaces and operational site constraints.
• Strong understanding of Operational Technology (OT) cyber security principles, including cyber risk in industrial control system environments and the application of cyber security requirements to engineering, testing or assurance activity.
• Ability to undertake the manual handling requirements of the role safely and in line with health and safety procedures.
