Job summary

Automation Experts Ltd. in Worcestershire seeks an Electrical Design Engineer to design electrical systems for modular HVAC and packaged plant solutions. You will produce safe, compliant designs, size cables, prepare load schedules and collaborate across mechanical, controls, and manufacturing teams.

Your role requires 2+ years in electrical design, BS 7671 knowledge, and proficiency with Trimble ProDesign; strong documentation and teamwork skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ relevant electrical design experience.
• Strong knowledge of BS 7671:2018 (18th Edition) and IET guidance.
• Experience with Trimble ProDesign or equivalent electrical design software.
• Good understanding of earthing, bonding, protection and discrimination.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, mechanical information and motor data.
• Knowledge of relevant electrical and machinery standards.
• Strong technical documentation and drawing skills.
• Good problem-solving and analytical ability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Produce electrical designs per procedures and project requirements.
• Carry out load, earthing and cable sizing assessments.
• Prepare load schedules, cable calculations and protection studies.
• Produce Single Line Diagrams, cable schedules and diagrams.
• Use Trimble ProDesign or equivalent for calculations and studies.
• Produce switchboard and distribution board layouts and schedules.
• Complete fault current, disconnection time and discrimination studies.
• Ensure designs comply with BS 7671, IEC 60204-1, EN 60364-1 and UK/EU directives.
• Peer reviews to ensure designs are compliant, practical and maintainable.
• Work closely with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, project management and clients.
• Support procurement and production with technical queries and design changes.
• Maintain accurate design records, revision control and technical documentation.
• Ensure designs consider safe isolation, maintenance access and buildability.
• Contribute to design standardisation, templates and continuous improvement.
