ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER – MCS

COVENTRY

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for an Electrical Design Engineer to join the team at MCS, a Galliford Try business.

Reporting to the Technical Director, the role of the Electrical Design Engineer is primarily to develop and successfully implement cost-effective control solutions for projects that meet customer needs, all relevant legislation, and stay within budget.

• Be responsible for detailed design, specification, implementation, FAT testing of the control solution.
• Support the Sales Department in developing robust, cost-effective control solutions.
• Pro-actively Value Engineer the solution to identify alternative materials, scope change opportunities while meeting performance, quality, and compliance standards.
• Attend design reviews and submit designs for approval.
• Be on site and responsible for successful site commissioning (Hardware) and SAT testing (Hardware) of the control solution.
• Liaise with all interested departments upon receipt of order and attend handover meetings as necessary.
• Maintain positive working relationships with all departments to ensure technical patterns are used for future reference.
• Assist with internal process development, identifying and removing waste/non-value activities, and help maintain procedures and filing systems.
• Assist in the event of holidays and sickness within the Engineering Team.

About You:

• + years relevant experience in electrical hardware design relating to MCC (DOL, ASD, Soft Start & VSD), Switchgear, Control Panel, and LV Distribution/Electrical Installations.
• Competence in working in a Systems Integration Environment, collaborating with Software Engineers to develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
• Experience in specification, design, installation, and commissioning of equipment with internal and external resources.
• Qualified to the th Edition of BS wiring regulations.
• Proficient in producing complex electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings, and BOM.
• Experience using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Teamwork experience.
• Experience interfacing directly with customers.
• Excellent IT skills, including Word, Spreadsheets, and Databases.
• Technical report writing skills.
• Experience in Water & Wastewater Sector.
• Experience in Industrial Automation.
• Knowledge of Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet Topologies.
• Proven track record managing contracts, disputes, external resources, and project delivery in cost-effective control solutions within industries like Utility, Food, FMCG, Automotive, or Materials Handling.
• HNC/ONC in Electrical/Systems/Software Engineering plus 2+ years experience in electrical installation or maintenance in relevant industries.
• Degree in Electrical Systems Engineering plus relevant postgraduate experience.
