Job summary

Steven’s Croft Power Station in Lockerbie is seeking an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Technician to join a multi-discipline team. You’ll perform preventative and reactive maintenance across instrumentation, control, electrical systems, and safety systems, with time in SAP CMMS and outage planning.

This permanent, Monday-to-Friday role may require occasional out-of-hours support and annual outage work.

Qualifications

  • Apprentice trained and qualified to ONC/HNC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a C&I and/or Electrical Engineering discipline with the ability to carry out on-site Electrical, Control & Instrumentation maintenance activities under self-supervision.
  • The capability and willingness to achieve E.ON’s required competency levels - Competent Person under the E.ON Safety Rules is essential.
  • Competence in hazard identification, risk assessment and management of risks.
  • A working knowledge of DCS and PLC control systems and maintenance/information management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out maintenance activities, planned or unplanned/emergency, in a safe manner with high regard to personal and site safety.
  • Managing the SAP workflow on a day-to-day basis, attending site meetings, prioritising work to ensure safe operation of the plant.
  • Assisting the Electro-Mechanical Engineer & the Electrical Engineer with outage planning and preparation.
  • Ordering spares and equipment following purchasing guidelines.
  • Ensuring calibration registers and routines are maintained and up to date.
  • Ensuring compliance with E.ON Management Instructions and PPC requirements.
  • Contract/contractor management to monitor safety, compliance and quality.

Job description

We’re looking for an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Technician to join our team based at Steven’s Croft power station in Lockerbie.


£52,740 + additional contractual hours payment

As an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Technician at Steven’s Croft Power Station in Lockerbie, you will work as part of a multi-discipline team of Electrical and Mechanical Technicians, Engineers and Operations Technicians. Together, the team ensures the station operates safely, compliantly and efficiently, while supporting continuous improvement across site operations.


Reporting to the site Electro-Mechanical Engineer, you will help the team achieve station KPIs by ensuring instrumentation and control systems remain operational, well maintained and compliant.


Your role will include preventative and reactive maintenance, structured asset management and hands-on work across pressure, temperature, speed, flow, level and positioning equipment, as well as electrical systems within your skillset. You will also support the continuous emissions monitoring system, along with control, communications, automation and safety systems. Where required, you will manage contracted specialist resources to help deliver this work safely and effectively.


This is a Monday to Friday role and is not shift-based. However, additional out-of-hours attendance may be required to support site operations or respond to operational issues. In addition to occasional out-of-hours support you will be expected to provide extra support during the annual planned outage.


Key responsibilities

  • Carrying out maintenance activities, planned or unplanned/emergency, in a competent and safe manner with high regard to personal and site safety.
  • Managing the SAP workflow on a day-to-day basis, attending the site meeting when required and prioritising work to ensure the safe operation of the plant. Ensuring that compliance and safety related activities are up to date and all completed work is recorded and closed on SAP CMMS.
  • Assisting the Electro-Mechanical Engineer & the Electrical Engineer with outage planning and preparation.
  • Ordering spares and equipment by following the E. ON purchasing guidelines and ordering tools available.
  • Ensuring that calibration registers and routines are maintained and up to date.
  • Ensuring compliance with, and adherence to E.ON Management Instructions and Regulatory PPC requirements.
  • Contract/contractor management, ensuring appropriate safety assessments have been completed and performance is monitored with regards to Safety, Compliance and Quality.
  • Carrying out individual projects as agreed with the Electro-Mechanical Engineer.
  • Assisting the Electro-Mechanical Engineer in analysing recurring or new plant problems and offer solutions or ideas for improvement.
  • Contributing to the site SHE Plan and safety initiatives.
  • Proficiency in using SAP to manage and develop maintenance plans and periodic scheduling of PMs.
  • Managing and planning the site stock holding of consumables and operational/strategic spares.
  • Promoting a positive safety culture within the team and challenging unsafe acts within E.ON and contractor personnel.
  • Ensuring that contract records, drawings, maintenance records and plant history records are always kept up to date.
  • Always working within the business’ strategic, financial and policy guidelines.

What we need from you

  • Apprentice trained and qualified to ONC/HNC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a C&I and/or Electrical Engineering discipline with the ability to carry out on-site Electrical, Control & Instrumentation maintenance activities under self-supervision.
  • The ability to innovate and appropriately challenge existing processes to improve plant performance and reliability.
  • Good knowledge of current legislation and supporting regulations including CDM, HASAWA, DSEAR, PSSR, PUWER and COSHH.
  • The capability and willingness to achieve E. ON’s required competency levels - Competent Person under the E. ON Safety Rules is essential.
  • Competence in hazard identification, risk assessment and management of risks.
  • A working knowledge of DCS and PLC control systems and maintenance/information management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build professional relationships with our internal and external stakeholders.
  • An understanding of operational practices and procedures and the ability to recognise and diagnose problems by evaluating information and data to draw conclusions and make decisions.

It would be great if you had

  • Up to date CompEx and BS7671 18th Edition qualifications
  • An IOSH (Managing Safely) or equivalent qualification as a minimum, demonstrating a clear knowledge of safety practices and management.
