Job summary

Meritus is recruiting for an Electrical Architect to join our client on an initial 6‑month contract to support sovereign defence programmes as the business scales. The role focuses on electrical architecture for missiles/launcher systems and requires hands-on design and interface definition work.

The candidate will specify power, data, EMC and safety aspects, support testing and design reviews, and may act as Equipment Manager for related hardware.

Qualifications

  • Electrical/electronics expertise for missile/launcher systems.
  • Knowledge of defence/industry standards and related governance.
  • Degree-level qualification in a related engineering subject.
  • Experience in systems engineering across complex products.
  • Ability to prepare, write and present technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Define electrical architecture and requirements for subsystems and interfaces.
  • Specify power architecture, data comms, EMC, bonding, grounding and screening.
  • Support testing, qualification, and integration activities.
  • Review and authoring of reports, guidelines and processes.
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate equipment-related activities.

Job description

MERITUS are recruiting for an Electrical Architect to join our client in an intial 6 month contract to support sovereign defence programmes as the business continues to scale.

ELECTRICAL ARCHITECT - INSIDE IR35 - £NEG - 6 MONTHS - UNDERGO SC - STEVENAGE (BRISTOL ALSO CONSIDERED) - MUST HAVE ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE - SECTOR: DEFENCE

You will be responsible for the electrical architecture and requirements for missiles and/or their associated launcher systems with duties including:

  1. Specifying/determining
  • system electrical requirements
  • interface definitions and characteristics between subsystems/equipment
  • power architecture, including power budget and power profiles
  • data communication and processing architecture
  • requirements for EMC, bonding, grounding and screening
  • signal safety, including routing of safety related signals
  1. Supporting test and fault-finding activities during compatibility checks, risk reduction, system proving/qualification and integration
  2. Reviewing and authoring reports, guidelines and processes
  3. Design assessments and analysis
  4. Working to defence/industry standards
  5. Attending and supporting design reviews

Alternatively, acting as the Equipment Manager (RMO) for specific electrical/electronic equipment(s) that are part of a missile or launcher system you will:

  1. Project manage the equipment(s) on behalf of the project during development, qualification and manufacture
  2. Own the requirements on behalf of the project for the equipment(s)
  3. Produce Statement(s) of Work for the associated design authority for the equipment(s)
  4. Create and update plans showing activities for the equipment(s)
  5. Manage internal & external design authorities for delivery of the equipment(s) hardware, software and deliverables to schedule, cost, quality and performance
  6. Hold regular progress reviews with the design authority for the equipment(s)
  7. Review qualification verification evidence
  8. Track and find resolution to equipment non-compliances
  9. Attend and support design reviews

Skillset/experience required:

Technical experience required:

  • electrical/electronics
  • interface definitions
  • knowledge of defence/industry standards, etc.
  • degree level qualification in a related subject
  • systems engineering
  • writing reports

Ideally this would be within a defence related background, however, experience within other engineering industries will also be considered.

Experience within these other areas are also of interest but not essential:

  • Health Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS)
  • Model Based Engineering (MBE)
