Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an Electrical/Electronic Architect for a contract role in Stevenage. The position requires SC clearance, hybrid working (3 days on site per week) and a 6-month initial term.

The role focuses on electrical architecture for missiles and launcher systems, including power, interfaces, data processing and safety aspects. A degree and defence standards experience are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Specify electrical system requirements and interface definitions between subsystems
  • Design power architecture and data/processing architecture
  • Ensure EMC, bonding, grounding and screening; route safety related signals
  • Support testing, fault-finding, risk reduction, system proving and integration
  • Review reports, guidelines and processes; perform design assessments
  • Act as Equipment Manager for equipment within missile/launcher systems; manage plans and design authorities

Job description

Our client, a large Aerospace and Defence supplier is looking for an Electrical/Electronic Architect to join them on a contract basis at their site in Stevenage.

  • Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be eligible to obtain full SC Clearance.
  • Hybrid working, 3 days per week onsite in Stevenage.
  • 6-month initial contract.
  • £60-£85 p/h Umbrella depending on the level of experience, inside IR35
Overview of department:

Electrical Architects/Engineers are involved in all aspects of missile development, from the early concept studies to series production and in-service support. It's an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to build on their engineering experience.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for the electrical architecture and requirements for missiles and/or their associated launcher systems with duties including:

  1. Specifying/determining
  • system electrical requirements
  • interface definitions and characteristics between subsystems/equipment
  • power architecture, including power budget and power profiles
  • data communication and processing architecture
  • requirements for EMC, bonding, grounding and screening
  • signal safety, including routing of safety related signals
  1. Supporting test and fault-finding activities during compatibility checks, risk reduction, system proving/qualification and integration
  2. Reviewing and authoring reports, guidelines and processes
  3. Design assessments and analysis
  4. Working to defence/industry standards
  5. Attending and supporting design reviews

Alternatively, acting as the Equipment Manager (RMO) for specific electrical/electronic equipment(s) that are part of a missile or launcher system you will:

  1. Project manage the equipment(s) on behalf of the project during development, qualification and manufacture
  2. Own the requirements on behalf of the project for the equipment(s)
  3. Produce Statement(s) of Work for the associated design authority for the equipment(s)
  4. Create and update plans showing activities for the equipment(s)
  5. Manage internal & external design authorities for delivery of the equipment(s) hardware, software and deliverables to schedule, cost, quality and performance
  6. Hold regular progress reviews with the design authority for the equipment(s)
  7. Review qualification verification evidence
  8. Track and find resolution to equipment non-compliances
  9. Attend and support design reviews
Skillset/experience required:

Technical experience required:

  • electrical/electronics
  • interface definitions
  • knowledge of defence/industry standards, etc.
  • degree level qualification in a related subject
  • systems engineering
  • writing reports

Ideally this would be within a defence related background, however, experience within other engineering industries will also be considered.
