Job summary

Huxley Bertram Engineering Limited is seeking an Electrical Apprentice based at Waterbeach, near Cambridge. This hands-on role combines workshop work, supervised projects and formal apprenticeship study, with the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard as the qualification path.

You will learn to read schematics, build documentation, and support testing, commissioning and fault finding while gaining practical electrical skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Five GCSEs at grades A-C or 5-9, including Maths and English.
• Good practical aptitude and a genuine interest in electrical engineering.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organised, reliable and able to prioritise tasks with support.
• Good problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn from feedback.
• Basic IT literacy.
• Team player with the ability to work on your own initiative when appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the electrical build of machinery under supervision and to project-specific requirements.
• Understand and follow electrical schematics, drawings and build documentation.
• Develop practical electrical skills including crimping, soldering, cable preparation and cable termination.
• Support electrical testing, commissioning and fault finding as knowledge develops.
• Attend customer sites to support machine installation, commissioning or modifications.
