Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Planning and EIA Consultant to join the Savills Central South Planning team in Southampton at Senior Planner or Associate level. This role is ideal for candidates with experience and knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) who wish to advance their career within the UK’s leading planning consultancy.

The successful candidate will work within the Southampton Planning Team, providing EIA services to a diverse range of clients across the Central South region. The team handles significant projects including Strategic Urban Extensions, new settlements, industrial and logistics developments, retail repurposing, town centre regeneration, urban mixed-use, and rural land portfolios. Clients include landowners, private individuals, institutions, developers, promoters, house builders, and investors.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist senior team members in delivering EIA consultancy across various development projects, from Screening and Scoping to Environmental Statement (ES) preparation.
  2. Provide planning and EIA advice, prepare planning applications, including Statements, and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  3. Coordinate and ensure quality control of reports from specialist consultants.
  4. Contribute to maintaining the Savills IEMA EIA Quality Mark.
  5. Supervise and mentor junior colleagues.
  6. Support business development by helping to secure new instructions and maintaining existing client relationships.
  7. Develop and nurture a network of key contacts within and outside Savills.
Key Skills
  • Minimum 1+ years post-qualification experience (MRTPI, IEMA Practitioner working towards Chartership, or Chartered).
  • Commercial acumen and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proactive, efficient, and effective work approach.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Presentable with strong presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the British Town Planning system.
  • Experience in leading and managing projects.
Team Overview

This role is vital within the Central South Planning Team and the wider Savills Southampton Office, supporting a variety of high-profile projects. The team is one of the largest in the region and is recognized as a market leader. The successful candidate will work in our new office at Mountbatten House, Southampton, gaining experience in a comprehensive development environment alongside colleagues in various land use sectors.
