Job summary

Leeds College of Building is recruiting an experienced SENDCo to join our Inclusive Learning Services team in Leeds. You will lead EHCP provision, coordinate annual reviews, and work with curriculum staff and external agencies to deliver high-quality support.

You will champion inclusive practice, manage complex caseloads, and ensure statutory requirements are met on time while promoting equality and positive learner outcomes across the college.

Qualifications

• Experience working with learners with SEND, particularly those with EHCPs.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, and EHCP processes.
• Excellent communication and partnership-working skills.
• The ability to manage complex caseloads and meet statutory deadlines.
• Experience coordinating multi-agency support for young people.
• Commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and positive learner outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate provision for students with EHCPs across the college.
• Manage annual reviews and ensure statutory requirements are met within required timescales.
• Work closely with curriculum managers, teachers, learning support assistants, and external professionals to develop and implement effective support strategies.
• Monitor student progress, attendance, and outcomes, ensuring appropriate interventions are in place.
• Liaise with local authorities regarding EHCP consultations, funding applications, and reviews.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on SEND legislation, inclusive teaching practices, and reasonable adjustments.
• Support the transition of learners into, through, and beyond college.
• Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant safeguarding requirements.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and highly organised Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) to join our dedicated Inclusive Learning Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring that students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) receive the high-quality support they need to achieve their ambitions and thrive within a Further Education environment.

Working collaboratively with curriculum teams, support staff, local authorities, parents/carers, and external agencies, you will champion inclusive practice and ensure that all learners have access to outstanding educational opportunities.

The successful candidate will have:

• Experience working with learners with SEND, particularly those with EHCPs, within an education setting.
• Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, the SEND Code of Practice, and EHCP processes.

• Experience coordinating multi-agency support for young people.
• A commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and positive learner outcomes.

You must hold:

• 5 GCSEs (Grade A–C) including English Language and Maths*, or equivalent
• Level 3 qualification in a relevant field

Having a SENCo qualification or relevant SEND professional qualification would be an advantage as would having worked in a Further Education or post-16 setting and a knowledge of high-needs funding processes.

You will be an organised professional and have an eye for detail required in the timely completion of our statutory requirements in relations to Educational, Health and Care Plans. You will be able to develop trusting relationships with students and their parents and carers as well as other professionals so that the College can support its students in the most effective way possible.
