About Us

GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber, and security agency dedicated to keeping the UK safe. We utilize advanced technology, ingenuity, and partnerships to identify, analyze, and disrupt threats. Collaborating with MI5 and MI6, we work to protect the UK from terrorism, cyber-attacks, and espionage. At GCHQ, you will have the opportunity to engage in varied and impactful work within a supportive and inclusive environment that emphasizes teamwork.

The Role

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will work with a close-knit team to defend against cyber threats such as malware outbreaks, insider threats, denial-of-service attacks, and phishing. Your responsibilities include detecting, responding to, and mitigating risks, analyzing alerts, logs, network traffic, and endpoint data using tools like Splunk, and developing detection content. You will also utilize threat intelligence to proactively enhance security measures and may support digital forensics during security incidents.

About You

You should have a passion for IT and cybersecurity, experience with scripting, and knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, along with familiarity with Python. Interest in developing skills in AWS and Microsoft Azure is desirable. Candidates should hold a foundational cybersecurity certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, GSEC) or have at least 6 months of experience in a cybersecurity role. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Training and Development

We offer in-house and external training opportunities, including industry-recognized certifications with SANS and OFFSEC. You will be mentored by a buddy to help you settle in and grow professionally. Opportunities for travel, conferences, and staying current with cybersecurity innovations are available, though travel is not mandatory.

Rewards and Benefits

Starting salary of £36,408 plus benefits such as 25-30 days annual leave, public holidays, performance recognition, season ticket loan, pension scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, on-site facilities, and parental leave.

Equal Opportunities and Disability Confidence

We value diversity and inclusion, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups. We are a Disability Confident Leader, committed to supporting disabled applicants through the recruitment process with reasonable adjustments.

What to Expect

The recruitment process includes application screening, virtual interviews, and a conditional job offer. The process may take 6-9 months, including vetting. Applicants should continue current employment until final offers are made.

Before You Apply

Applicants must be British citizens or hold dual British nationality and pass the Developed Vetting security clearance. Consider practicalities like residence within a commutable distance to Cheltenham, as relocation costs are not covered. Applications from outside the UK are not accepted until visiting the UK.

Right to Withdraw

We may close the application window early once sufficient applications are received. Early submission is advised.
