Job Description:

A leading Insurance Company is looking to appoint an Underwriting Legal Counsel in London on a 12-month contract. There is potential for this role to become permanent. This is an exciting opportunity to join a market leader and contribute to the legal team’s success.

This role involves supporting the negotiation, structuring, and execution of complex (re)insurance transactions, especially at the intersection of insurance and capital markets. The successful candidate will collaborate with senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality legal solutions in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing strategic legal leadership on underwriting transactions, including:
• Funded and unfunded regulatory capital relief deals
• Structured credit transactions
• Asset-backed non-payment insurance across various asset classes
• Negotiating and drafting complex legal documents, ensuring clarity and risk alignment
• Managing external counsel on complex matters, ensuring advice is commercial and cost-effective

Applicants should be qualified lawyers with experience in insurance and/or structured finance, especially leading complex underwriting transactions. Strong relationship-building, communication skills, and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach are essential. The role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and support a multidisciplinary team.

Experience in the insurance industry is mandatory.
