Job description

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and delivering projects on Thames Water buildings. This includes structural projects (Lifecycle) and facilities for staff (Welfare), across a range of buildings, including Listed and operationally critical ones.

You will oversee a portfolio of projects ranging from approximately £30,000 to £2 million, from initial scoping to completion, including reporting and handover. This role offers a better work-life balance and involves working with a collaborative team, with travel across Thames Valley and/or London Region.

Responsibilities as a Facilities Project Engineer
  1. Scope projects independently, liaising with Operational Specialists to ensure comprehensive project scope.
  2. Manage tender processes with framework contractors, including review and awards.
  3. Ensure CDM compliance, acting as Client and managing Principal Designer and Contractor, ensuring safe, timely, within-budget delivery according to Thames Water and legal standards.
  4. Coordinate with the Controller of Premises for Pre-Construction information, and review Contractors' plans and safety documentation.
  5. Induct contractors and supply chain regarding site hazards and safety issues.
  6. Maintain high standards in health and safety, environment, and quality, with organized administrative records.
  7. Communicate regularly with the Controller of Premises, managing contractor performance, resources, and site issues.
  8. Forecast expenditure accurately, report to delivery managers, and escalate issues as needed, adhering to governance procedures.

Note: A driving license is required as a car allowance is provided.

Location: Based at Newbury or Swindon, with travel to project sites.

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 36 hours per week.

Candidate Requirements
  1. HND/HNC/BEng/NVQ Level 4 in construction management, mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, or equivalent, or relevant construction background.
  2. Strong experience in construction or facilities management.
  3. Experience in project scoping from conception to procurement.
  4. Experience managing contractors and auditing performance.
  5. Good project management, communication, and financial skills, with knowledge of construction methods, health and safety, and legal regulations.
  6. Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, able to handle multiple projects.
  7. Ability to develop professional, customer-focused relationships.
