The role
As a ITVx Video Tester, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and functionality of our video products across various platforms and devices. You will play a crucial role in identifying and reporting defects, ensuring a seamless user experience, and contributing to the overall success of our video content.
Main responsibilities
- Execute test plans and test cases to evaluate video playback, streaming quality, audio synchronisation, resolution, and overall performance.
- Accurately document and report bugs, glitches, and inconsistencies using bug tracking systems (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla).
- Testing video content across a wide range of devices (smart TVs, mobile devices, desktops, gaming consoles) and operating systems (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS).
- Verify bug fixes and ensure that issues are resolved effectively.
- Monitor video streaming performance, including buffering, latency, and load times.
- Perform regression testing to ensure new features and bug fixes do not introduce new issues.
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, and other team members to ensure timely resolution of issues and a high-quality product.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of test plans and test cases.
- Awareness of the latest video technologies, codecs, and streaming protocols and DRM systems.
Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)
- Previous experience in video testing or quality assurance, preferably in a streaming or media environment.
- Familiarity with a wide range of devices and operating systems used for video playback.
- Experience using bug tracking and test management tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and a keen eye for identifying defects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in an agile environment.
Other things we're looking for (key criteria)
- Experience with video testing automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Appium).
- Understanding of network protocols and troubleshooting network-related video issues.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards related to video, such as closed captioning and audio descriptions.
- Knowledge of how CDNs function and their impact on video delivery.
- Able to put various devices in debug mode or able to extra logs from devices
- Understanding of video codecs (e.g., H.264, H.265, VP9), streaming protocols (e.g., HLS, DASH), and video playback technologies.
- Previous experience using various test case management & orchestration software
- Used cloud based testing solutions.
