Educational Teaching Assistant

Scale 3 (Point 5-6), full time, term time only, 27.5 hours per week.

The Academy Council of St Mary’s Catholic Primary Academy wishes to appoint a caring, reliable, calm, positive and skilled person to support the teaching of the curriculum through high‑quality assistance to our pupils within the classroom setting. In this role, you will use a creative and impactful approach, follow the specific direction of the class teacher and work effectively to improve learning for pupils, whilst enhancing their educational progress, personal experience and character development.

St Mary’s is a wonderful Catholic school enjoying an excellent reputation locally, where we have created a happy, successful and well‑resourced learning community. Our children are very well behaved and highly motivated and we love spending our days with them!

We are proud to be serving a richly diverse and inclusive community, inspired by our strong Catholic ethos and tradition which stretches back over 175 years. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual wanting to grow their skills, expand their experience and make a positive difference to the lives of children at our school.

Responsibilities
  • Work with individual or groups of pupils to support learning as directed by the teacher, including intervention programmes as appropriate.
  • Support working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Meet the personal and physical needs of pupils whilst encouraging their independence.
  • Facilitate pupil access to specialist provision as indicated by the pupil’s IEP or EHCP.
  • Develop a range of learning support materials and resources (adapting where appropriate for individual pupil needs) e.g., English and Maths.
  • Work with individuals or groups of pupils in the use of IT to support learning.
  • Monitor and give feedback on the progress of the pupils in regard to the objectives in their plan.

The successful candidates will be required to support the Catholic ethos and to make a contribution to the extended life of the school where possible. Any additional skills that can be offered should be mentioned in the application process.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempted from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS (formerly CRB) from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. To arrange this please contact Mrs Maseela on 01422 362365.
