Job summary

The Telford Park School is seeking an Education Welfare Officer to strengthen attendance, welfare and family support. You will lead attendance casework and liaison with families, safeguarding, and external agencies to ensure pupils attend regularly and engage with school life.

You will work with our Attendance Champion, safeguarding team and pastoral staff to remove barriers to attendance, supporting vulnerable pupils and their families with persistence and professional discretion.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Experience in education welfare, pastoral care, safeguarding or family support.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work positively with families while maintaining high expectations.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding challenges faced by vulnerable children.
  • Ability to remain calm and solution-focused in complex situations.
  • Experience of attendance casework or multi-agency working desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead attendance casework and family liaison.
  • Coordinate targeted interventions for pupils with attendance concerns.
  • Work with safeguarding, SEND and pastoral teams to remove barriers.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and contribute to reviews.
  • Liaise with external agencies and local authority when escalation is needed.

We are seeking a passionate, resilient andhighly organised Education Welfare Officer to join our ambitious team.This is an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives ofyoung people and their families by helping pupils overcome barriers toattendance, engagement and success.

Working alongside our Attendance Champion,safeguarding team, pastoral leaders and external agencies, you will play apivotal role in improving attendance, strengthening family engagement andensuring that vulnerable pupils receive the support they need to attend schoolregularly and flourish.

The Role

You will lead on attendance casework, familyliaison and targeted intervention for pupils whose attendance is causingconcern, particularly those at risk of persistent or severe absence.

You will:

  • Identify attendanceconcerns early and coordinate effective support.
  • Build strong, positiverelationships with pupils and families.
  • Conduct attendancemeetings and home visits where appropriate.
  • Work closely withsafeguarding, SEND and pastoral teams to remove barriers to attendance.
  • Support pupilsexperiencing anxiety, social difficulties, safeguarding concerns or othervulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate attendanceplans, reintegration support and multi-agency interventions.
  • Maintain accuraterecords and contribute to attendance reviews and reports.
  • Work with externalagencies and the local authority where additional support or escalation isrequired.

This is a role for someone who understands thatattendance is not simply an administrative issue. It is often a safeguarding,welfare and inclusion issue that requires persistence, compassion andprofessional challenge.

What We Are Looking For

We would love to hear from candidates who have:

  • Experience working withchildren, young people and families.
  • Experience withineducation, pastoral care, safeguarding, family support, youth work, socialcare or a related field.
  • Excellent communicationand relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to workpositively with families while maintaining high expectations.
  • Strong organisationaland record-keeping skills.
  • An understanding ofsafeguarding and the challenges faced by vulnerable children and families.
  • The ability to remaincalm, professional and solution-focused when managing complex situations.

Experience of attendance casework, educationwelfare work, Early Help processes or multi-agency working would be highlydesirable.
