Five Education is seeking an education support worker

to assist primary and secondary students at a special school in North East Somerset. The students will have various needs including Down syndrome, autism, ADHD, social emotional mental health (SEMH), but particularly profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD).

The role entails working 1:1 with students to help them with their wellbeing, social skills, communication skills, and emotional regulation. The role requires you to help with personal care including changing, feeding, and general hygiene. It will also include some learning activities, but not a significant amount of academic work, as the students require practical and emotional support most of all. Experience with PMLD is essential. You may also need to support them during playtime and lunchtime to ensure their safety.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Support students 1:1 by making the curriculum accessible, using creative approaches to make learning engaging.
2. Always ensure the safety and well-being of students.
3. Help students develop social skills and self-regulation skills.
4. Work collaboratively with teachers, SENC o, and other staff members to address individual needs.
5. Encourage socialisation and good behaviour through positivity and praise.
6. Be empathetic, patient, and have a strong interest in supporting children.
7. Able to work 5 days a week (term time only), Monday-Friday 8:30-15:30.
