Job summary

Halton Borough Council is recruiting an Education Support Practitioner (ESP) for a two-year fixed-term contract to support vulnerable children and young people across Halton. The ESP will work across schools, Family Help, Children’s Social Care and partner agencies to shape assessments and planning, ensuring timely access to the right support.

The role involves travel across Halton, close collaboration with various services and a monthly car user allowance.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children and young people in education or social care.
  • Ability to work across schools, Family Help and partner agencies.
  • Awareness of safeguarding principles and multi-agency collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with schools, Family Help and partner agencies to ensure the educational needs of children and young people are identified and reflected within assessment and support planning.
  • Provide targeted, solution-focused and strengths-based support to children, young people and families to improve attendance, engagement and educational outcomes, including support for children out of education or in Alternative Provision.
  • Undertake joint work and visits with Family Help, providing educational expertise and contributing to assessments of need, planning and intervention.
  • Support parents and carers to engage with education and relevant services, identifying and mobilising appropriate support to prevent needs from escalating.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and quality assurance across the Local Authority, including safeguarding enquiries and improving information sharing between schools and services.
