The Education Officer plays a key role in assisting the Education Manager in delivering the education programme at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.

This role focuses on educational visits, workshops, outreach and zoo events. Your role will also involve animal husbandry duties where you will be working with the education animal collection. This position reports directly to the Education Manager.

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the high quality of existing educational activities on offer at Noah's Ark Zoo Farm.
  • Sharing the responsibility for teaching educational workshops with the Education team.
  • Delivering outreach sessions (school assemblies, toddler groups, care homes, summer fairs, etc) with support from the Education team. This may involve some work outside of normal working hours.
  • Managing and processing school bookings (from initial enquiries to booking in and raising invoices) and responding promptly to any enquiries via phone and email.
  • Supporting the Education Manager in developing and writing / designing educational interpretation.
  • Feeding, cleaning and looking after the education animal collection, invertebrates, reptiles, and small mammals.
  • Designing and implementing engaging public programmes to enhance visitor experience and deepen the public's understanding of and interest in the natural world.
  • Supporting the Education team in delivering zoo events to the general public.
  • Delivering Safari Tots' parent and toddlergroup during term-time, when needed.
  • Working within a small office environment and assisting with general admin tasks.
  • Weekend office cover (contracted to working one weekend day per month) on a rota basis.

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject, within an environmental or science subject is preferred but not essential or have equivalent experience.
  • A recognised formal teaching qualification and have equivalent experience.
  • Experience within a formal and informal teaching environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to proofread content accurately.
  • A full driving licence - you may be required to drive your own car to outreach sessions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience or working in a zoo or wildlife attraction / charity or in the heritage sector.
  • Working knowledge of the National Curriculum.
  • Knowledge of animal husbandry and experience of working with animals or a strong willingness to do this.
  • Knowledge of Noah's Ark Zoo Farm, wildlife, and animal conservation.

Work Pattern

3 / 4 days a week, we can be flexible on days, however, one of these days must be a Friday (due to the team's working pattern).

We will discuss working days at interview stage.

You will be contracted to work one weekend day per month, plus bank holidays, as per the staff rota.

Some out-of-hours work when required (time off in lieu given).

Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Salary - £27,206
