About the role
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Education & Behavioural Change Manager to lead the Recycle for Greater Manchester education team and help residents understand how to reduce waste, reuse more and recycle correctly.
You will lead the development and delivery of an engaging education programme for schools, community groups, students and professional audiences. This includes tours of operational facilities such as the Materials Recovery Facility, Renew Hub and solar farm, alongside outreach sessions across Greater Manchester.
As the team’s manager, you will lead, manage and support colleagues, set clear expectations and ensure work is delivered consistently to a high standard. You will also oversee the development of learning resources and session plans that are inclusive and relevant to different audiences. Alongside your management responsibilities, you will take a hands‑on role in delivering facility tours and education sessions for a range of audiences.
You will be responsible for ensuring all activities are planned and delivered safely, with appropriate health and safety, risk management and safeguarding arrangements in place.
You will work closely with colleagues across GMCA, SUEZ, local authorities, schools and community partners. You will also use insight and feedback to improve the programme, evaluate its impact and identify new opportunities.
This is a varied, practical role that combines people management, educational delivery, partnership working and programme development. It includes delivering tours and outreach sessions, spending time on operational waste sites and travelling to venues across Greater Manchester. Occasional evening and weekend working will be required.
About you
You will have strong experience in education, training, teaching or community engagement, with a good understanding of how people learn. You will be confident developing and delivering engaging sessions for different audiences and able to turn complex information into clear, accessible content.
You will be an experienced, effective and supportive manager who can motivate others, set clear priorities and maintain high standards in a busy environment. You will be comfortable balancing competing demands, managing people, projects and resources, and taking practical decisions when circumstances change.
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills are essential. You will be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners, influence colleagues and senior stakeholders, and handle sensitive or complex issues professionally.
You will bring a strong commitment to health and safety, safeguarding, inclusion and accessibility. You will also be organised, analytical and focused on outcomes, using evidence, feedback and evaluation to improve services and demonstrate impact.
A full driving licence is required for this role.
