When was the last time you saw the direct impact of your work? As an Editorial Assistant, you will be at the heart of the Open University Press Portfolio team supporting the publication of resources that are at the cutting edge of higher education and professional development.

Shape the future

Reporting to the Head of Product and supporting our Commissioning Editors, you will help plan and execute editorial processes, develop content, and ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget. Strong project management, attention to detail, and digital literacy are key for managing content delivery and fostering internal and external partnerships. As an Editorial Assistant, you'll handle essential administrative and development tasks and contribute to special projects to expand your expertise.

How can you make an impact:
  1. Project Management: Support the Open University Press editorial team by managing approximately 15-35 frontlist titles annually, coordinating meetings, tracking progress, and ensuring on-time delivery.
  2. Author and Editor Support: Manage correspondence, contracts, assist with research, and collaborate with editors to prepare manuscripts for production, ensuring efficient project management and content development. Support portfolio owners with pipeline and ongoing project activities.
  3. Review Management: Maintain reviewer logs and payment systems, conduct reviewer research, follow up on reviews, and ensure efficient proposal evaluation and manuscript clearance.
  4. Project Tracking: Manage tracking documents and activities supporting the publication strategy. Facilitate author meetings, monitor progress, and provide status updates to portfolio owners and the Head of Product.
  5. Proposal Processes: Handle 'signings packs', financial sign-off, contracts, and payments to authors, contributors, and reviewers.
  6. Vendor Management: Process invoices and payments for vendors and contractors.
  7. Market Research and Content: Coordinate back-cover copy, curate cover designs, undertake market research, and support social media engagement.
What you’ll need to be successful:
  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in publishing or a related field.
  2. Familiarity with the learning sciences, education, or publishing industry preferred.
  3. Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects.
  4. Excellent communication and proactive problem-solving skills.
  5. Digital proficiency with Microsoft Suite, CRM software, and social media platforms.
  6. Knowledge of digital/cloud content management platforms.
