Job summary

CAF Rail UK seeks a preventative technician in Edinburgh to diagnose faults across electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. You’ll use schematics, diagnostic software and test equipment to identify issues and perform corrective actions in a depot environment, supporting reliability and passenger service.

Salary region is £43,000 per annum with a 37.5 hour work week and no shift pattern, reflecting a Real Living Wage commitment and structured development opportunities at CAF Rail UK.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in mechanical engineering (or equivalent) and 3 years post-apprenticeship experience.
• Experience detecting faults and performing root cause analysis across multiple systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform root cause analysis on advanced tram and train systems.
• Carry out corrective actions and repairs in a depot setting to ensure service availability.
• Utilise diagnostic software and test equipment to support fault finding.
