Job summary

Rowden, headquartered in Bristol, is seeking an Edge Compute Lead to own the hardware estate and drive edge compute strategy across HPC, GPU, storage and networking. You will work with the Platforms team to ensure firmware, drivers and interconnect choices align with OS and apps, while standing up reference systems for early testing.

The role is hands-on with no direct reports, requiring on-site presence four days a week at Bristol HQ and occasional travel; candidates must be eligible for SC

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience specifying, building and running compute hardware.
• Experience with GPU and accelerated computing and memory/thermal limits.
• Experience with embedded or ruggedised compute under size, weight and power constraints.
• Strong Linux fundamentals, including firmware, drivers, provisioning and troubleshooting near the metal.
• Understanding of networking and storage to design end-to-end systems.
• Proven track record turning ad hoc kits into standardised, documented estates.
• Experience procuring specialist hardware and managing supplier performance.
• Experience with edge AI modules, CUDA and driver/container stack.
• Familiarity with bare-metal provisioning.
• Background in defence/aerospace or other demanding hardware sector.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering hardware estate across its full life, from selection to retirement.
• Lead on edge hardware evaluation and integration for small form factor compute.
• Build reference systems and test capabilities for integration and evaluation.
• Align hardware with software by coordinating firmware, drivers and interconnect.
• Advise project teams on platforms and publish known‑good configurations.
• Define and maintain standardisation and baselines for reproducibility.
• Benchmark, monitor, plan capacity, and manage spares and warranties.
• Manage supplier relationships and ensure value from specialist purchases.
