Job summary

Rowden Technologies Ltd. is hiring an Edge Compute Lead to own the hardware our engineers design, build, and test—from edge nodes to test infrastructure and HPC. This hands-on role, within the Platforms team, requires on-site work at the Bristol HQ for about 4 days a week with occasional travel.

Candidates must be eligible for SC clearance. You will define standards, document configurations, and work with suppliers to deliver reliable, high-performance hardware for demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience specifying, building and running compute hardware for engineering, research, or laboratory use.
• Practical knowledge of GPU and accelerated computing and associated memory/interconnect constraints.
• Experience with embedded or ruggedised compute platforms under size, weight and power limits.
• Strong Linux fundamentals near the metal (firmware, drivers, provisioning, troubleshooting).
• Networking and storage understanding to design and debug end-to-end systems.
• Track record of standardising a heterogeneous kit into a documented estate.
• Experience procuring specialist hardware and managing supplier performance.
• Experience with edge AI modules, CUDA and related driver/container stacks.

Responsibilities

• Own the engineering hardware estate from selection to retirement across HPC, GPU, storage and networking.
• Lead on edge hardware integration to ensure performance wherever deployed.
• Build reference systems and test capabilities for rapid integration and evaluation.
• Align hardware with software so firmware, drivers and accelerators support OS and apps.
• Advise project teams with known-good configurations and quick hardware decisions.
• Set standards, documentation and baselines to keep kits reproducible and supportable.
• Benchmark, monitor, plan capacity and manage spares, warranties and refresh cycles.
• Manage suppliers and verify claims against real workloads for value.
