SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE MANAGER
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for managing technical personnel, ensuring the quality of compliance submittals and technical project administration. This includes proper administration of all technical aspects of projects, monitoring workload, project momentum, quality of work products, providing high-level technical support, and supervising assigned technical staff. The Senior Technical Manager reports to the Technical Principal of Compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serve as the direct supervisor of assigned technical personnel, conducting regular performance reviews, providing feedback, positive reinforcement, and corrective actions.
- Oversee project assignments to technical and administrative support staff to meet objectives and deadlines.
- Communicate with the Compliance Consultant and Principal of Technical Compliance Services regarding project status, personnel needs, project opportunities, and regulatory issues.
- Prepare and manage compliance reports, update plans, oversee sampling activities, etc.
- Provide final review of project submittals and correspondence.
- Act as a liaison between clients and regulatory agencies at federal, state, and local levels.
- Interpret regulations and develop strategies to ensure client compliance.
- Support the Project Team with technical expertise.
- Maintain project momentum and budgets.
- Achieve billable goals.
- Represent the company at trade shows, bar association events, or other venues.
- Publish papers in technical journals or other publications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong technical and regulatory knowledge to support client strategies, negotiate with agencies, and develop creative solutions.
- Proficiency in conducting compliance audits, preparing Tier II and Form R reports, SPCC plans, stormwater reports, air permit applications, wastewater discharge permits, and hazardous waste reports.
- Ability to perform technical research on projects.
- Coaching and mentoring skills to guide team members in technical and administrative tasks.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: B.S. in environmental science or related field.
- Experience: 6–8+ years in environmental consulting.
- Certifications: Current PE licensure or related professional certification is a plus. OSHA Hazwoper 40 Hour Certification and/or General Industry 10 or 30 Hour Certifications are advantageous.
- Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Additional requirements: Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and physical ability to operate vehicles safely.
This role involves travel to various client locations, including day trips within the state or neighboring states, and potentially extended travel requiring overnight stays or air travel.
