We are seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our dedicated Environmental Health Team. Our team is committed to protecting public health through proactive and reactive work programmes, focusing on food hygiene, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct food hygiene inspections as part of our food inspections programme.
- Investigate complaints related to food safety, food hygiene, foodborne illness, workplace health and safety, and accidents.
- Work closely with an experienced team of officers to deliver excellent regulatory services. This may include work across other disciplines such as port health at border control posts, commercial nuisance, and planning to meet service objectives.
- Participate in projects covering food hygiene, health and safety, infectious diseases, port health, and commercial nuisance, including some out-of-hours and on-call work.
Ideal Candidate
- Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent.
- Completed Environmental Health Practitioner Portfolio or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant Environmental Health legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Knowledge of inspection, investigation, and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of PACE and RIPA legislation.
- Experience conducting investigations and inspections in relevant regulatory functions.
- Experience conducting interviews under caution and undertaking complex enforcement activities.
- Ability to plan and organise time effectively over multiple cases and investigations.
- Excellent communication and persuasion skills, with the ability to use evidence and professional expertise to build compelling cases.
- Ability to provide professional advice and translate complex technical information for diverse audiences.
- Thorough knowledge or previous experience in food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
- Approachable manner with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to independently prioritise workload.
