Purpose of the job

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with extensive knowledge and practical application of mechanical engineering within highly regulated industry sectors. The Engineer is key in providing a design engineering service. The Engineer is responsible for the production of discipline-specific design and engineering deliverables to support the project.

Reporting to

Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or the Project Engineering Manager / Nominated Engineer depending on the complexity of the project assignment.

Key Accountabilities

As the Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Development of designs to satisfy the technical specification.
• Preparation of design deliverables throughout the design process.
• Checking discipline-specific design deliverables.
• Checking design calculations.
• Contributing to design reviews and safety reviews.
• Preparing technical specifications.
• Preparing installation, commissioning, and operating documents.
• Ensuring quality and timely delivery of design documentation throughout all phases of the design process.
• Ensuring compliance with safety legislation and statutory regulations.
• Developing cost-effective technical solutions.
• Staff development.

Duties & Requirements

Essential for a Mechanical Engineer

• Knowledge of fundamentals within your engineering discipline.
• Previous experience in design within highly regulated industries.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering design solutions.
• Good understanding of safety legislation and statutory regulations.
• Experience working within a project environment.
• Good level of commercial awareness.

Desirable for a Mechanical Engineer

• Experience in the nuclear industry.
• Management of design teams in the technical delivery of projects.
• Management of sub-contractors.
• Experience in commissioning, manufacturing, and installation.
• Systems engineering experience (e.g., Requirements Management and Interface Management).
• Engineering Substantiation experience.

Technical Key Competencies

• Technical ability with calculations, risk assessments, hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, etc.
• Technical competence in client interface.
• Problem-solving skills related to design processes and solutions.
• Ability to take technical responsibility.
