Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking an Emergency Department Access Specialist I to join the Admitting Operations team. This hybrid role blends access coordination with health unit coordination, requiring patient registration, insurance verification, and accurate data capture in a fast-paced ED.

Responsibilities include triage support, EMS desk liaison, and multi-line telephone management, with emphasis on patient safety, documentation, and timely processing during downtime or high-volume shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
• Associate's Degree preferred.
• 1-3 years in customer service or hospital/clinic setting preferred.
• Ability to stay composed in a high-stress environment.
• Ability to multi-task in high patient volume unit; manage pressure of high intensity situations.
• Ability to push 35-50 lb WOW.

Responsibilities

• Accurate patient identification in the ADT system in a high-pressure setting.
• Bedside registration: collect demographics, insurance, regulatory forms, and signatures.
• Verify insurance at bedside and collect MSPQ information as applicable.
• Meet timelines for key clinical measures (e.g., chest pain—Door to EKG).
• Capture patient data via EMS radio including age, chief complaint and vitals.
• Answer multi-line telephone and manage inquiries calmly and professionally.
• Manage ED Patient Tracker and complete Access Specialist tasks.
