Position: Early Career Teacher (ECT) Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher

Job Summary:

As an Early Career Teacher (ECT) specializing in Special Educational Needs (SEN), you will play a critical role in providing high-quality education and support to students with special needs. Your role involves planning and delivering tailored lessons, assessing students' progress, and working closely with other professionals and parents to create an inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of SEN students.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching strategies to ensure all students can access the curriculum.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Monitor and assess students' academic, emotional, and social progress.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to track progress and inform future teaching.
  • Provide feedback to students and parents on achievements and areas for improvement.

Classroom Management:

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and learning.
  • Employ effective behavior management strategies to support student engagement and well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, other teachers, and external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists).
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to the development of SEN strategies.
  • Liaise with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and needs.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in SEN education.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars related to SEN and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Reflect on teaching practices and seek feedback to improve effectiveness.

Record Keeping and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and interventions.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies, procedures, and regulations related to SEN provision.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required for meetings, reviews, and inspections.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Specialization in SEN education (desired but not essential).

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs (through placements, internships, or volunteer work).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of SEN and inclusive education principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with additional needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Additional Information:

  • Location: Huddersfield, HD4
  • Salary: Based on the national teaching pay scale, commensurate with experience.
  • Working Hours: Full-time, standard school hours with occasional after-hours meetings and training.
