Job summary

Suffolk County Council in Ipswich is looking for an Assistant Ecologist to support ecological teams with fieldwork and advisory duties across the county. The role blends independent site visits with collaborative problem solving to promote biodiversity-friendly solutions.

The post involves helping prepare and deliver ecological projects, liaising with internal departments and external partners while developing expertise in practical conservation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology or relevant experience.
• Initiative, tact and diplomacy.
• Desire to obtain the best possible outcomes for wildlife and habitats in Suffolk.
• Experience in the use of appropriate IT applications, including GIS (MapInfo) websites and social media.

Responsibilities

• Promote the conservation and enhancement of Suffolk's wildlife.
• Support the County Ecologists and Senior Ecologist in a broad range of ecological activities and advice.
• Contribute to the delivery of the Suffolk Verges Project and County Wildlife Sites Project.
• Undertake other ecological work and administrative duties as part of the Landscape and Biodiversity Team.
