Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking an Assistant Ecologist to join the Ecology Team and Hampshire Biodiversity Information Centre (HBIC) in Winchester on a hybrid basis. You will support biodiversity data handling, GIS analysis and information dissemination to help meet statutory environmental obligations.

The role offers a permanent contract, 37 hours per week, with training opportunities and a supportive local authority environment designed to develop ecological and data-handling skills.

Qualifications

• Degree or professional qualification in ecology or related field.
• Experience handling biodiversity data and GIS.
• Knowledge of habitat survey and wildlife legislation.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Extract, assemble, manage biodiversity information.
• Interpret and disseminate data to meet statutory obligations.
• Collaborate with Ecology Team and HBIC.
• Support data handling using GIS and Access databases.
