Job summary

FPCR is seeking an experienced ecologist to join our East Midlands team in Lockington. You will lead ecological assessments, surveys and mitigation planning for varied, high‑quality projects and collaborate with ecologists, landscape architects and planners.

The role requires 3+ years of consultancy experience, strong report writing, knowledge of UK planning requirements and the ability to manage projects with clients and regulators. Hybrid working is supported.

Qualifications

• Degree level or higher in Ecology or related field.
• At least 3+ years’ experience in ecological consultancy with project management, surveys, reports and client liaison.
• Sound knowledge of the UK legislative and planning system, guidelines and best practice.
• Strong communication skills and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in ecological report writing (EcIA, HRA, Species and Habitat Management Plans).
• Membership or eligibility for professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

• Planning, leading on and conducting ecological surveys.
• Undertaking EIAs, biodiversity net gain assessments and preparing ecological reports and strategies.

• Providing expert ecological advice to clients and stakeholders.
• Building and maintaining relationships with clients, contractors and regulators.

About the Role

You will play a pivotal role in leading and delivering high-quality ecological assessments, surveys, and mitigation strategies, collaborating with our talented team of ecologists, landscape architects, and environmental planners.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing projects throughout their lifecycle prior to and post-planning, providing advice on ecology and biodiversity to clients, stakeholders and project teams;
• Planning, leading on and conducting ecological surveys;
• Undertaking environmental impact assessments, biodiversity net gain assessments and preparing a range of ecological reports and strategies;
• Designing and implementing appropriate mitigation measures to enhance biodiversity and protect ecological habitats.
• Providing expert advice on ecological matters to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
• Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Skills and Experience

• Degree level or higher in Ecology or related field;
• At least 3+ years’ experience in ecological consultancy, with a strong focus on project management, conducting surveys, assessments, preparing a range of ecological reports, and liaising with clients and wider project consultants to deliver outputs efficiently and on time;
• Sound knowledge of the UK legislative and planning system, guidelines, and best practice.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrable experience in a range of ecological report writing, inclusive but not limited to Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) documents, Species and Habitat Management Plans;
• Experienced in advising clients on Biodiversity Net Gain; understanding and use of the DEFRA Statutory Biodiversity Metric and production of associated reports and plans;
• Membership or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
• A full UK driving licence and access to vehicle.
