Job Description

Although our production and financial results are the engine that drives our business, it is the depth of capability in our people that will continue to determine First Quantum’s ongoing success. Reporting to the Group Manager, Risk, this position will play a key role in implementing and driving FQM’s approach to company-wide risk management by developing strategies for managing future risk while balancing opportunities for growth and innovation, .contributing to overall company stability & sustainability..

Leading a newly created sub-area within the global risk management function & playing a key role in ensuring future resilience, the role will be responsible for managing a robust global process of identifying, assessing, and mitigating potential risks that could impact the organization's objectives. Acting as an ally to the existing internal audit remit & working with operational and functional leaders, the role will be forward looking and focused on developing and implementing risk management frameworks, conducting in-depth risk analysis and engagement, and providing insights and reporting on top and emerging risks to prevent problems in future.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Leadership, collaboration and partnership

  • Support the Group Manager, Risk Management in strengthening the organisation’s risk culture through continuous review and engagement with site and group management.
  • Advise senior management on risk-related matters and help define the function’s strategy.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure effective risk management integration.

Regulatory Knowledge and Benchmarking

  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in risk management.
  • Contribute to industry forums on risk management standards and regulations.

Framework Development and Maintenance

  • Develop and maintain the organization's risk management framework, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
  • Provide input and review to the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans by the business.

Risk Measurement and Analytics

  • Develop and implement risk measurement methodologies and tools for monitoring and evaluating risks.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative risk assessments, utilizing various methodologies and tools.

Risk Identification and Assessment

  • Identify and evaluate potential risks across all business units and functions, including operational, financial, strategic, and compliance risks.
  • Develop and maintain risk documentation, in collaboration with the business.

Risk Mitigation and Monitoring

  • Collaborate with the business in the review and monitoring of the implementation of risk mitigation strategies and controls.
  • Monitor the progress of risk management processes, controls and action plans
  • Conduct regular risk reviews and establish, track and report on key risk indicators (KRIs).

Risk Reporting and Communication

  • Enhance risk monitoring and reporting, covering both financial and non-financial risks.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to senior group and operational management.
  • Communicate risk-related information effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Provide risk training and awareness programs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CRM, PRM) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in risk management/leadership (consultancy & client side)
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles, methodologies, and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical modeling. Practical knowledge/application and understanding of the opportunities related to risk/data analytics, Power BI and other reporting suite tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience of the extractive sector desirable (energy, mining or OG&C)

Other:

  • Position ideally to be based in either our JHB or London Office (South Africa or United Kingdom) however will consider individuals in Zambia and Panama (to be based at site). Right to work in country required (no sponsorship provided)
  • High level of English required. Spanish language skills are desirable
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet specific work demands.
  • Must be able to travel internationally for periods of up to 3 weeks/trip. Role involves up to 30% travel time. Passport with no restrictions on international travel required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for visit to operations.
