Job Description

Reporting to the Group Manager, Risk, this role is pivotal in implementing FQM’s risk management strategies, balancing growth opportunities with risk mitigation and contributing to overall stability and sustainability.

Leading a newly established sub-area within global risk management, the role involves managing processes to identify, assess, and mitigate risks impacting organizational objectives. Collaborating with internal audit and operational leaders, the position focuses on developing risk frameworks, conducting analyses, and reporting on emerging risks to prevent future issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Leadership, Collaboration, and Partnership

  • Support the Group Manager in strengthening risk culture through ongoing engagement with management.
  • Advise senior management on risk matters and help define strategic direction.
  • Collaborate across departments to embed effective risk management practices.

Regulatory Knowledge and Benchmarking

  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Participate in industry forums on risk standards and regulations.

Framework Development and Maintenance

  • Develop and maintain risk management policies, frameworks, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards.
  • Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning.

Risk Measurement and Analytics

  • Implement risk measurement tools and methodologies.
  • Conduct risk assessments using quantitative and qualitative approaches.

Risk Identification and Assessment

  • Identify and evaluate risks across all business units.
  • Maintain risk documentation collaboratively with the business.

Risk Mitigation and Monitoring

  • Assist in reviewing and monitoring risk mitigation strategies.
  • Track risk controls, progress, and key risk indicators.

Risk Reporting and Communication

  • Enhance risk reporting processes for financial and non-financial risks.
  • Prepare and deliver risk reports to management.
  • Communicate risk information effectively and provide training as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or related fields; Master’s or professional certifications preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in risk management or leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of risk principles, frameworks, and data analysis tools.
  • Experience with risk management software (e.g., Active Risk Manager, riskHive) and related tools.
  • Experience in the extractive sector is desirable.

Other:

  • Preferred based in JHB or London; open to Zambia and Panama (site-based). Right to work required.
  • Proficiency in English; Spanish skills are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% internationally.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
