Job description

As the Product R&D and Application Lead, you will drive end-to-end product development and enhancement initiatives, ensure all formulations comply with regulatory and environmental standards, and maintain accurate documentation across all product ranges. The ideal candidate has strong R&D expertise, deep knowledge of industry application processes, and a commitment to innovation and sustainability. You will be instrumental in aligning formulations with market trends and customer needs, while ensuring products are compliant, effective, and environmentally responsible.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine new cleaning and sanitising solutions for various sectors.
• Conduct/head lab and field trials, ensuring product efficacy and performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align product specifications with operational needs.
• Ensure trial mandates and documentation (labels, SDS, TDS) are complete before product finalisation.
• Assess and approve raw materials for formulation inclusion.
• Review and update existing formulations for cost-effectiveness and compliance.
• Identify greener alternatives and reformulate products to improve environmental impact.
• Develop and maintain test kits and validation protocols for production.
• Test products for compliance across various usage environments.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory standards (SANS, NRCS, DAFF, FDA, EU, etc.).
• Prepare and submit efficacy and safety documentation in coordination with Regulatory and Quality teams.
• Manage ongoing product registrations and ensure certification upkeep.
• Maintain and revise all product-related documentation (PIS, SDS, labels, etc.).
• Implement systems for efficient documentation storage, version control, and stakeholder access.
• Monitor market trends and competitor products to drive R&D strategy.
• Lead sustainable initiatives by integrating biodegradable and eco-friendly materials.
• Apply continuous improvement methods to streamline product development.
• Collaborate across departments to align on product specs, raw materials, and production capabilities.
• Define KPIs, manage performance, and provide technical guidance to junior R&D staff.
• Support team development and uphold Ecowize’s values in all professional interactions.
