Manufacturing Laboratory Technologist

Full Time

Derby/Onsite 5 days

What you will be doing

Work as part of a dedicated team delivering laboratory activity to support the production of Turbine Blade manufacturing, covering casting, machining, and coating processes. This role will be aligned with either the Precision Casting Facility (PCF), Turbine Blade Facility (TBF), or Precision Machining Facility (PMF) in Derby.

Responsibilities

You’ll undertake laboratory tasks including:

  • Lab testing of incoming raw materials, heat treatments, consumables, and chemicals.
  • Control and develop special processes required for component manufacture.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal standards.
  • Ensure engineering specifications are met for new parts and ongoing production.
  • Support testing for process improvements, zero defect, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Lead investigations to resolve quality issues.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Microstructural evaluation and acceptance of test samples from steel, titanium, and nickel alloy components at various manufacturing stages.
  • Approve process data, procedures, drawings, and methods for domestic and external supply parts.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international standards through instructions and audits.
  • Support the Product Control Authority in manufacturing change approvals.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to improve processes and resolve manufacturing issues.

  • Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards or have achieved Chartered Engineer status (UK) or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills.
