At Babcock we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Safety, Health and Environment Practitioner at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role:
As a Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Practitioner, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will join a dynamic and proactive team implementing strategic and operational SHE plans in support of our objectives.

Day-to-day, you'll ensure compliance with SHE regulations while developing and implementing policies to effectively manage risks and hazards.

You will also:

  • Provide guidance on safe systems of work and risk assessments, ensuring hazards are identified and mitigated.
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager in developing effective safety and environmental protection strategies.
  • Assist the audit manager in delivering health, safety, and environmental audits, maintaining accurate records.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and informal walkabouts to monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to uphold ISO45001 and ISO14001 accreditation and prevent incident recurrence.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).

Essential experience of the SHE Practitioner

  • Demonstrated passion for Safety, Health, and Environment, with the ability to provide evidence at the interview.
  • Advanced, relevant SHE experience in a hazardous industry, ideally with knowledge of Dockyard operations or the Royal Navy.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and legislation.
  • Proficient in applying ISO 45001 and 14001 standards and managing environmental permitting.
  • Basic knowledge of nuclear site licence requirements and environmental permitting arrangements.

Qualifications for the SHE Practitioner:

  • Level 3 accredited Health and Safety qualification, such as NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Aspiration to achieve Chartered status with IOSH or a similar professional body.

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
