Located at the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. Herefordshire Council has been working with partners to develop solutions addressing phosphate levels within the River Lugg/Wye Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to improve water quality and meet conservation targets. The council has pioneered several initiatives, including the delivery of integrated constructed wetlands for tertiary treatment of point source pollution at wastewater treatment works.

As an Environmental Technician for the wetlands project, working alongside the Nutrient Mitigation Lead, your responsibilities will include:

1. Providing ecological advice to the project team and stakeholders within appropriate timescales.
2. Reviewing, interpreting, and advising on ecological and environmental reports, technical guidance, planning policies, and legislation.
3. Maintaining and advancing knowledge on ecological matters, including Habitats Regulations Assessments, nutrient impacts, designated sites, habitats, species, Biodiversity Net Gain, and identifying opportunities for biodiversity enhancement.

You will also collaborate with other council teams to address the recently declared Climate and Ecological Emergency.
