Job Summary

Due to an exciting period of growth, we are now seeking a number of certified Aircraft Fitters to join the team in our Defence manufacturing facilities on the Isle of Wight.

Our Fitters are responsible for carrying out standard activities of their assigned tasks in full compliance with Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures, prioritizing safety.

Working as part of a close team, communication, flexibility, and availability to work all shift patterns and overtime as required are essential.

You will actively identify safety concerns, report problems immediately to your TL, and suggest improvement ideas (Kaizen).

Contribute to creating a 'Great Place To Work' through continuous improvement, safety, and open dialogue.

You will be supported by your Team Leader (TL), who will facilitate your training and coaching.

Job Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Working on a range of aircraft main and sub-assemblies, using appropriate assembly techniques, tools, and fixtures, in accordance with technical data and competencies.
  • Reading and understanding drawings, processes, and procedures to meet regulatory quality standards and customer specifications, involving both Composite and Metallic structures.
  • Performing tasks to the highest standards, in compliance with work standards and training, and reporting any safety or quality issues immediately.
  • Following all health, safety, and environmental policies and standards.
  • Understanding and contributing to team KPIs related to People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost.
  • Becoming certified at the Lean Foundation level and implementing at least one Kaizen per month.
  • Supporting problem solving and contributing ideas based on experience.
  • Promoting a safety-first, collaborative team environment and embodying GKNA culture principles.
  • Complying with all legal, regulatory, and company policies, including export controls and US government contracting policies.
Job Qualifications

Suitable candidates will:

  • Have experience as aircraft fitters, supported by 2-4 years of apprenticeship or relevant certifications, with the ability to read and understand technical drawings and procedures involving both Composite and Metallic structures.
  • Take pride in quality work.
  • Be friendly, collaborative, and a strong team player.
  • Be an effective communicator and safety conscious.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.

Note: The position requires UK National Security Vetting (UKNSV) Security clearance (SC). Applicants typically need to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years, though each case is assessed individually.
