Job summary

M5tec Limited is seeking an EC&I Engineer in the UK to apply engineering and scientific principles across design, construction, production and operation of systems throughout their lifecycle. The role blends independent work with internal multi-disciplinary teams and client interactions.

The ideal candidate will hold a 2nd class degree in Electrical/Control/Mechatronic engineering and 1–2 years of post-graduate experience in regulated industries, with strong knowledge across power/distribution,

Qualifications

  • A minimum 2nd class degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or related discipline.
  • 1–2 years of post-graduate engineering experience in highly regulated industries (Nuclear, Subsea, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Defence).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power and distribution systems, control systems and automation, instrumentation and process measurement, and control theory with modelling and feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and specifying electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for industrial and high-assurance applications.
  • Design, installation, and maintenance of electrical hardware, systems and instrumentation for monitoring and control.
  • Developing control philosophies, functional design specs and system architectures; implementing dynamic process control.
  • Selecting, integrating and optimising power distribution systems, motors, drives, generators, transformers, and protection systems.
  • Specifying and integrating instrumentation, sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control elements for measurements.
  • Applying control theory and automation to ensure safe, efficient operation.
  • Assisting with manufacture, build, testing, trials and commissioning activities.
  • Engaging with clients, stakeholders, end users to translate technical information into practical outcomes.
  • Supporting project delivery with understanding of commercial, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhering to engineering standards, quality procedures and health & safety requirements.

Job description

Our EC&I engineer role requires the application of engineering and scientific principles to deliver and optimise safe, sustainable solutions for the design, construction, production, and operation of systems, devices, machines, structures, and processes through the full lifecycle from requirements, to design, manufacture and commissioning.

An enthusiasm for engineering combined with the proven ability to analyse problems and develop effective solutions using a strong understanding of engineering principles within a chosen discipline. A practical background is preferred with several years of applied experience is necessary.

The ability to communicate is essential with excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly to non-engineers and stakeholders.

It is a broad and diverse role involving working both individually and in internal multi-disciplinary teams as well as with the end user in different locations. The role requires the practicing of sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion to deliver a successful solution.

Responsibilities & Duties

As an EC&I Engineer at M5tec, your responsibilities may include:

  • Designing and specifying electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for industrial and high-assurance applications
  • The design, installation, and maintenance of electrical hardware and systems and instrumentation used to monitor and control these systems, machines and industrial processes.
  • Developing control philosophies, functional design specifications, and system architectures and the implementation of systems that regulate, optimisze, and maintain the behaviour of dynamic processes to achieve desired performance and stability.
  • Selecting, integrating, and optimising power distribution systems, motors, drives, generators, transformers, and protection systems
  • Specifying and integrating instrumentation, including sensors, transmitters, actuators, and control elements for measuring variables such as temperature, pressure, flow, force, and displacement
  • Applying control theory and automation principles to ensure systems operate predictably, efficiently, and safely
  • Assisting with manufacture, build, testing, trials, and commissioning activities
  • Engaging with clients, stakeholders, and end users, helping translate technical information into clear, practical outcomes
  • Supporting project delivery while developing an understanding of commercial, contractual, and regulatory requirements
  • Adhering to engineering standards, quality procedures, and health & safety requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • A Minimum 2 nd class degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechatronic engineering or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of post-graduate experience in an engineering role preferably within highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Subsea, Renewables, Oil and Gas and Defence.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Electrical power and distribution systems
    • Control systems and automation
    • Instrumentation and process measurement
    • Control theory, modelling and feedback systems
  • A practical, problem-solving approach to engineering challenges
  • Evidence of the successful delivery of engineered solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-engineers
  • Experience working within multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with clients or end users
  • A professional approach aligned with sustainability, integrity, ethics, diversity, and inclusion
