Lead Mechanical Engineer

Location: Cambridge, UK

Salary: £45,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, Full-Time

Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

Randstad is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Cambridge. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a small team in a stable, single-site environment. You will play a vital role in overseeing all aspects of mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation activities on-site.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of engineers and contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and pumps.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all health and safety standards and company procedures.
  • Maintain excellent communication with site management and clients to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement and implement cost-effective engineering solutions.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a mechanical engineer, ideally with experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Recognised mechanical qualifications (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Strong working knowledge of building services and maintenance systems.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
