Materials and Process Lab Technician

Location: Stevenage - Full time onsite (Compressed working available)

Salary: 40ph Umbrella

We are looking for a Materials and Process Lab Technician to join us and support all areas of the business in matters related to materials and processes. The ideal candidate will have expertise in metallic, non-metallic, composite, and other materials science areas.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Assessing a wide range of materials including metals, paints, adhesives, composites, and related processes. Familiarity with general lab equipment is required; experience with XRF, FTIR, SEM, and EDX is beneficial but not essential. A strong background in materials chemistry is desirable.
• Preparing reports, interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, and using IT systems such as Word, Excel, and Access.
• Supporting all aspects of the materials lab, including failure investigations, materials selection, supply chain support, first article inspection report reviews, material inspection and characterization, among other activities.
• Assisting in generating or assessing compliance data such as REACh, RoHS, or environmental aspects of engineering designs.

Key skills required:

• Experience working in a manufacturing laboratory environment.
• Assessment of materials and components according to established international standards, including DEF STANs.
• Experience supporting the selection, procurement, and manufacturing of engineering parts or components.
• Knowledge of non-metallic material production and processing, including paints and adhesives.
