Job Description

This exciting opportunity sits within our Environmental Protection Team, responsible for delivering the Surface Water Outfall Programme (SWOP) and investigating polluted surface water outfalls suffering from urban diffuse sources, mainly third-party misconnections.

Environmental Protection Advisors play a crucial role in delivering SWOP, in partnership with the Environment Agency, as part of the PIRP.

Location and Working Details
  • Base location: North London - Primary sites: Beckton (IG11 0AD), Deephams (N9 0BA), and Maple Lodge (WD3 9SQ)
  • 36 Hours Per Week (Mon-Fri)
  • Full UK Driving License required for travel across North London sites and occasionally to other locations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate assigned SWOP projects, assist with outfall safari training, and conduct follow-up assessments.
  • Encourage rectification of misconnections and escalate cases to Local Authorities when necessary.
  • Collaborate with regional network teams for PSWOs and sewer defect resolution.
  • Engage with the Environment Agency for project sign-off and queries.
  • Conduct contractor field audits for H&S and performance.
  • Provide pollution mitigation advice and support other environmental matters.
  • Take full ownership of the assigned Environmental Protection Team (EPT) patch.
Candidate Requirements
  • Strong understanding of environmental sustainability and decision impacts.
  • Proficiency with IT systems such as GIS and O365.
  • Hands-on environmental experience in field-based environments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of drainage and sewerage systems (highly desirable).
  • Ability to plan and manage workload independently.
  • Project coordination experience (highly desirable).
  • Degree in Geography, Environmental Studies, or related field (desirable but not essential).

  • Salary from £32,000 to £35,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
