Qualifications

  • 6-8+ years of relevant experience in molecular biology, neurodegenerative diseases, hematology, or oncology.
  • Experience with digital PCR, qPCR, NGS assay design, and IVD development.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 13485, UK MDR, IVDR, ISO 15189) is desirable.

QIAGEN Manchester is a leading centre for molecular diagnostics, focusing on personalized healthcare in infectious disease and oncology. Located near Manchester city centre, our state-of-the-art facility emphasizes scientific innovation and collaboration.

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to support our Diagnostic Assay Development team, focusing on molecular diagnostic applications using RNA and DNA technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery aligned with business goals.
  2. Lead and provide technical expertise in IVD assay development, specializing in digital PCR (dPCR), qPCR, and NGS applications.
  3. Assess, review, and report data, ensuring quality and traceability; interpret findings and propose improvements.
  4. Prepare documentation for regulated in vitro diagnostics, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  5. Stay updated on technological advancements and industry regulations; promote a safety-first culture.
  6. Manage project resources and timelines within a matrix environment, coordinating work across departments and teams.
  7. Coach and mentor team members to foster continuous development and knowledge sharing.
Position Requirements
  1. Degree or PhD with 6-8+ years of relevant experience in molecular biology, neurodegenerative diseases, hematology, or oncology, preferably in diagnostics.
  2. Experience with digital PCR, qPCR, NGS assay design, and IVD development and verification.
  3. Proven leadership in managing multiple projects and organizing work effectively.
  4. Strong data analysis, interpretation skills, and experience in troubleshooting and statistical tools.
  5. Excellent communication and presentation skills tailored to diverse audiences.
  6. Experience working in regulated environments with knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 13485, UK MDR, IVDR, ISO 15189) is highly desirable.
  7. Primer design experience for diagnostic assays is a plus.
